| Description: | EVE'S HANDICRAFTS Family runs their own real cottage industry- -a mother and children, (c. ages 3-14) transform wool from fleeces into woven cloth. Cottage industry - group of women and young girls dye, spin and weave. Eastcote, Middlesex MS hanging sign w/ picture of a curved object; says "The Shuttle" below it. (A shuttle is a thing for passing thread in a loom.) MLS interior: 2 girls c. age 12, wearing shorts, stand in a tub while woman drops fleeces into it. Boy c. age 11 pours water in tub, and the girls start stomping; 2 other children - girl and little boy - watch at left. MLS woman and 2 girls in yard of house; the woman (mother?) taking out some dyed fleece from small metal tub on a table, wringing it out and hanging it on line behind her along with many others. The family sitting around outdoors carding or combing the wool; there are 2 adult women here and the rest are kids - 5 girls and a boy. LS 2 girls and woman sit at spinning wheels in yard; a couple women and the 2 youngest children are doing something with wool by door of house. MCU woman spinning. CU part of machine; her hand holding thread. LS woman and girl twisting the yarn around on a revolving rack in the yard; good view of much of the yard and the old farmhouse in BG. Interior shot: MS woman stands at loom weaving; girl sits working at spinning wheel in BG rt. CU weaving. LS teenage daughter c. age 14 comes out of the house modeling a short dress with fringe made from the wool they have spun and woven; it looks like an American Indian costume. | |
