A relic documenting the time before chain stores closed their grip and permanently extinguished grassroots commerce. A good portion of this film is told via miniature models (trains, houses, cars, trucks... heck, the whole town is in model form. Opens with a model of a settler's farm; live-action MS of a boy fetching water from a stream; MS's of a woman on a sewing wheel, then on a loom; MS of boy gathering firewood; MS of a man making a stool in the backyard. Shots of the model, the area slowly becoming developed (people settling into the farming community, railroad tracks being built... a toy train rolling through; town stores and stations and hotels and mills popping up.... the dawn of congestion). Building the Westport of today.......... Cut to 1965. CU of a boy drinking water from a garden hose; CU of hole in knee of boy's jeans; LS of Dad scaring son, then both walking over to a carpenter who's building a barn on their strawberry farm. CU of Dad and son inspecting strawberries in the field. LS's of workers in the field. MS of a forklift hoisting a palette of packaged berries onto a trailer.
