| Description: | ON PREVIEW CASSETTE # 201925 What a dairy farming family does during the winter months. More entertaining than you'd think. And great cinematography. EST shot of a dairy farm in the dead of winter, pristine snow abounding. MS's of Grandpa standing outside a shed on the farm, trying to start a bobsled. MS and CU's of Father Farmer (in the requisite red and black plaid flannel shirt) sitting in an office, flipping through a notebook documenting the medical history of the farm's cows. Tight LS of three kids pulling a tobaggan past Grandpa who's still working on the sled. Excellent subjective and objective MS's of the kids running through the snowy forest in search of a good hill which they eventually find and sled riotously down numerous times. Even old man winter won't kill their fun. MS of Grandpa kicking the bobsled which of course starts the old thing; dopey Grandpa does a stunned dance and then hops on.......... CU of frozen buds on a tree (encapsulated in ice). MS's of a young male deer (tiny antlers on his head) walking through the woods. CU of fox tracks in the snow, cut to MS's of the fox hunting in a field, then cut to ECU of a field mouse poking its head from a hole. MS's of a raccoon climbing an elm tree, trying to eat the buds. Subjective shot of Gramps crusing through the woods on his bobsled. Tight LS of Gramps stopping at the sledding hill to pick up the kids; they attach the tobaggan to the sled and veer off (one kid stays on the sled).......... MS of father walking down the center aisle in the cow house, a bucket and milking nozzles in hand. MS's of father tending to a young cow named Sally suffering from pneumonia. MS's of young veterinarian Martin sitting in his office, inventorying his medicines; the phone rings and he has a conversation with the father about Sally.......... tight LS of the kids and Gramps cruising through the woods, stopping at a length of evergreens. CU as Gramps takes a hacksaw and cuts one down to bring back home as a Christmas tree. Tight LS of a wintry apple tree; CU and ECU of its frozen branches.......... MS's of Dr. Martin driving to the farm in his Bel Air stationwagon, but he can;t get to the farm itself as the rural road hasn't been plowed. MS of him calling for help from a CB radio in his car. Tight LS of Gramps and kids returning to the fram with the X-Mas tree. MS's of Grampa picking Dr. Martin at the end of the road with the snow buggy. MS's of Dr. Martin listening to Sally's lungs through a stethoscope; CU's of all as they wait for a prognosis. CU of doc administering a shot of penicillin to Sally.......... tight LS of a conveyor belt moving manure from inside the cow house out to a spreader. Tight LS of a tractor spreading the manure in a corn field. MS's of the oldest son (with some direction from his father) plowing the driveway of snow with a tractor-shovel. MS of the mother and daughter drying dishes in the kitchen. MS's of the boys leading the hogs from pasture and into pen, later feeding the pigs corn on the cob (while they eat enthusiastically). MS's of the father loading whole corn onto an industrial grinder; CU's of the grist. Tight LS's and MS's of two boys tossing bales of hay from the hay loft down to the bottom floor of the cow house. MS's and CU's of kids decorating the Christmas tree.......... great EST shot of the wintry dairy farm (nice perspective here, stretches of barbed wire lining the property). MS's of the father helping Sally to stand, pushing her towards her food; MS and CU of Sally eating the corn grist. Closes with great EST shots of the farmland, neighboring barns and homes and lots of blowing snow. | |
