| Description: | Whipped by constantly changing winds, devastating fires raged from Maine to Virginia in a week-end of holocaust. In Bayonne, N.J., Five factories were destroyed; in Brooklyn firemen fought a fire in an oxygen plant. The worst fires, however, occurred on Staten Island, part of New York City, where it was a 24-hour battle before a hundred separate fires could be controlled. Half of New York's fire Equipment fought these blazes. Aerial shot a whole area is on fire, you can see the spray from the fire hoses. MCUS - Ground level, homes ablaze fire fighters fighting what looks like a loosing battle. Aerial shot - Brooklyn oxygen tanks engulfed in fire threaten to explode. MLS - Fireman standing on top of an extended latter with fire hose blasting water on the flames. MCUS - A house with its roof blazing with fire. MS - A A-frame home burning. MS - Tall grasses on fire. MS - Men and teenage boys digging trenches on the side of the road, they have bandana's tied around their faces to protect them from the smoke. MCUS - A house totally engulfed in flames. MS - A woman watches in shock as everything around her is on fire. MS - Aftermath of the fire where everything is burned to the ground. A car that is burned out. MS - Fire inspectors taking notes from a man who suffered the loss of everything he owned. MCUS - One woman comforting another older woman on her losses. MS - Mass destruction all over, in the mist of it stands a bathroom sink and a home that seems to be untouched by the ravaging fire. | |
