Description:Flash Points USA III - God & Country - Genevieve Wood Interview (raw footage from interview with Genevieve Wood spokesman for the Family Research Council - FRC)

02.10.27 Genevieve Wood says "You know, people are very busy day in and day out running their lives, they can't pay attention to every single court decision that comes down, but when you have things like the Pledge of Allegiance decision and taking "under god" out of the pledge, you know what that's something every American gets .....cases like this are beginning to clarify this judicial activism, judges overstepping their bounds."

02.11.38 Genevieve Wood continues stating that the courts have become increasingly arrogant "Courts are not set up to make laws, they're there to interpret them and increasingly your seeing courts decide that they're going to make laws, that belongs to the State Legislature, that belongs to the Executive Branch to sign it into law."

02.12.40 Genevieve Wood speaks about the FRC (Family Research Council) "We would agree with the President that the role of faith in our nations fabric if you will is extremely important. One only has to look up into the yellow pages or in their local bulletin to see where you have homeless shelters and food pantry's and many things that outreach to the poor and take a look at who supports the majority of those non-governmental groups, to see that the majority of them are faith based, not all of them, but the majority are."

02.13.54 Genevieve Wood says "All the President has called for with his faith based initiative is to say that faith based organizations, whether they be Protestant, whether they be Jewish, whatever their faith background happens to be, if they're providing services in their community they ought to have the opportunity to apply for the same federal dollars that we give to the United Way or to Planned Parenthood or to any of these other not-for-profit groups that aren't government run, that are allowed to apply for federal dollars if they're doing a good job why should we discriminate against them just because they have a faith component."

02.14.54 Genevieve Wood responds to question regarding the elements of marriage being only man and woman, Genevieve says "Marriage throughout history, not just only in the United States, not just in western civilization has been between a man and a woman and it doesn’t matter whether you go to this continent or to Asia or Africa, doesn't matter what religious background or non-religious background people have come from it has always been a man and a woman, and we believe the reason for that is because the marriage unit is the foundation of the family unit and the family structure. And the reality is every marriage doesn’t end up with children, the majority of them do and the majority of our family units are built around marriages. Children need mothers and fathers, two dads are not the same thing as a mom and a dad, two mothers are not the same thing as a mom and a dad. And you look for those who want to say well this is just about allowing two people who love each other to have life long commitments, those people can already do that. And the reality is that if you're going to get into the business of re-defining marriage and I'm not suggesting the homosexual activists are saying that polygamy and polygamists ought to be able to have the rights of marriage, but if you're going to get into the habit of re-defining it, why would we stop with it's just two people. I mean if it's not about just a man and a woman, why would we say that it's just about two people who love each other, what about 5 people who love each other? You've got to have some boundaries and throughout civilization that boundary has been one man, one woman."

02.17.32 Genevieve Wood is asked if she thinks people "choose" to be gay, she responds "I think if you look at the statistical evidence out there, the survey data out there taken by both those who are on the pro-homosexual side and those that are not, we've never found a "gay gene", there's never been any biological evidence that would suggest or prove that the homosexual lifestyle is something that one is born with." Continues "Obviously there's a lot that goes into people's decisions, their make up, to a great extent I think a lot of it has to do with one's background. Did they have a strong father figure as a young boy? Again, it comes back to why is it important that children have a mother and a father, they need a male role model, they need a female role model and that's why marriage between a man and a woman is important, that's why is does matter what we as a society say is ideal. It doesn't matter that every child will end up with the ideal, we all know that, but we know that's what we ought to strive for, we should strive for the best for future generations."

02.19.28 Genevieve Woods says that President Bush has made it ok to talk about your faith in public.
