Description:FLOATING HOTEL (aka TRANSVAAL CASTLE) A story about the first floating hotel, a liner which sails from Southampton to South Africa.

A cruise from Southampton to Cape Town, these places are not shown but it does show Las Palmas.

L/S of a plush twin bedded hotel room, a maid walks into the room carrying a breakfast tray. (breakfast in bed) She takes it over to a glamorous young lady who is sat up in bed. M/S as the maid places the tray on her knee and leaves. The tray contains fruit and toast, the woman unfurls her napkin and picks up a peach. C/U as she starts to peel it with a knife, the camera pans up to her face, she looks up. M/S of the sea through the windows. L/S of a room in the hotel with various people reading or playing cards and chess. M/S of a coal effect fire in the hearth. M/S of two ladies playing cards at a table, M/S of a clock on the wall. Exterior. L/S from a high angle of a ship, the narrator explains that the rooms are on the first floating hotel, the 33,000 ton 'Transvaal Castle'. It runs from Southampton to South Africa and the guests have the run of the ship. M/S of two ladies lying on sun loungers on the deck, they are wearing swimsuits and one of them is rubbing suntan lotion on. L/S of the deck of the ship, a group of people are playing quoits and a lady is stood in the foreground wearing a red pointed hat and green dress. M/S on deck, a man throws a quoit towards the camera. M/S as a lady takes up her position and throws, a man throws after her. C/U of the quoits in the circle. C/U of another lady as she throws the quoit, it blocks out the screen and turns into a shuffle board stick, the stick pushes the discs along the ground. C/U of a man and a woman holding sticks waiting for their turn. M/S of a man playing the game, a woman takes her turn. L/S from a low angle as the disc spins towards the camera. L/S from the ship as people wave to a passing cruise liner, M/S of the passengers waving. L/S of the cruise liner as it sails away. L/S of Las Palmas, with the buildings in the foreground and hills in the background. L/S from high angle of people doing a traditional Portuguese dance on the ship, a lady is stood watching in the foreground. M/S as the men and women dance, M/S of a girl sat down playing a tambourine, other people are sat round her. L/S of the dance. M/S of people sat on deck chairs watching, one woman is smoking. L/S of the dancers on the ship with people sat down watching. L/S of the sea and the island as the boat sails away. L/S of people sat in a cafe called 'The Golden Room' which is based on an Arabian theme. A man comes over and serves drinks to some people. C/U of a picture of a golden chariot pulled by two horses. L/S of an archway and lights in the room, M/S as the waiter pours drinks for two ladies. L/S of the different levels of the ship with various activities going on. C/U of two men drinking cocktails, a woman in a swimsuit joins them and has a taste of one of their drinks. L/S of four men swimming in the pool, M/S of the men as one of them reaches the other side. M/S of a young girl as she presses a button on a jukebox, she then walks out of the frame. M/S of three teenage couples jiving in a room on the boat, other people are sat round the edge. C/U of a stereo speaker saying 'Seeburg Stereo Channel 2'. M/S of one of the couples jiving, C/U of everybody's feet as they dance, one girl is barefoot. M/S shot from a low angle of two girls jiving together. L/S of the couples dancing.
