Children at a holiday camp endure various competitions including fancy dress,wheelbarrow race, beauty competitions and not forgetting the boys, a strong man competition. M/S of a line of children in fancy dress, one boy dressed as Adam, another dressed as a strong man in a leopard skin. M/S of the three judges. C/U 'Adam', with ginger hair, scowling, pan down to laurel leaf costume. 'Queen of Hearts' and 'Knave of Hearts' with some rather squashed looking jam tarts in a see-through bag. Next follows a sequence outdoors of the children taking part in a wheelbarrow race, with both girls and boys, chasing after a stick of rock on a string. The winners collapse on the ground . Indoors, three tiny little girls in pretty dresses, take part in a beauty competition, where the lucky winner gets a golden furry rabbit for a prize. They are lined up by the 'redcoats' and stand on stage and wave. They attempt to curtsey but only one can do it - the other two just look lost and bend their knees. The audience applaud. C/U Sandra Colclough, who wins, chewing or sucking a ribbon. Sandra collects her rabbit. In the boys' Tarzan competition, one small boy, Peter Hall, is measured across his bare chest by a redcoat, and he beats his chest. C/U Maurice Colclough, with red hair, scowling, being measured. Cut away to little girls in the audience with ribbons in their hair. Maurice bares his tiny teeth. M/S of a very small boy twiddling his ear, smiling in a cheeky way, and then beating his chest. Cut aways to the judges and the audience of parents and children. | |
