The Algerian revolt with its demands for the accession of general Charles de Gaulle to power, has made a meaningful move across the Mediterranean. With general Massu in command the island is quiet under the new regime. Actual fighting has again broken out in Tunisia. Between french troops quartered there and the tunisian forces that have blockading them ground shooting and bombing from the air. Tension soars to a dangerous pitch. Active revolt is within a hundred miles of metropolitan France. Corsica (birthplace of Napoleon) is controlled by committees of public safety. The railroad terminal in Algeria. Trains parked on the tracks. MS - Two French soldiers watching a dump truck with its back cab loaded with military men. MSOH - French troops with their army jeeps. MS - General Massu. WAOA - Throngs of Algerians pack the streets in demonstrations, holding up banners. MS - Crowds holding up the Cross of Lorain. MS - Outside the house of de Gaulle's country side retreat. MS - General de Gaulle being driven to his house of retreat, the driver drives on to the well wooded lined driveway and his aids close the iron gates.
