| Description: | GAZETTE "Hungerford "FREE KISSING" DAY - as in Saxon days at "Hocktide" the "Tutti-men" claim their toll of a kiss or a penny forfeit from every women." Hungerford, Berkshire. A man talking to camera, explaining the Tutti-men ceremony to the audience. As he talks the footage of the ceremony begins. Two men, carrying long poles topped with flowers, surrounded by crowds walking through the village. They are knocking on doors collecting tutti 'dues', a kiss or a penny from every girl. A nice shot of the two men kissing a woman at her door one after another. The first kiss is not seen because flowers from the pole cover their faces. Tutti-men throwing pennies and fruit to crowds of eager children. Cut back to the man talking to camera. Tutti-man climbs a ladder to reach a window with a woman waiting. They kiss quite passionately on lips. She gets a fruit and he turns to cheering crowd. Note: This is a traditional annual ceremony of the tutti men - "two members of the local council who, carrying flower bedecked staves of office, call at houses in the village High Street to collect the tutti 'dues': from every girl a penny - or a kiss!" | |
