| Description: | French soldiers' amateur theatrical performance to entertain their comrades, on the Western Front. Fun! MLS of audience of French soldiers standing in rows; applauding and laughing- -a guy on right is laughing so hard he's nearly falling down! LS 2 soldiers on stage in front of painted curtain; another guy in drag joins them & they act out a scene. Pan on spectators again. Then shot from behind audience looking toward the little stage; battered bombed church in BG. While the show goes on a couple bombs land in BG not far away! The guy in drag seems to be singing a song; the audience cheers; nobody pays attention to the bombs. (I guess they are accustomed to bombs, while this show, by contrast, is a novelty.) Closer shot of cast standing in row on stage; as curtain lowers some members of "Orchestra" in FG start to play music- -the conductor waving baton; soldiers playing trombone & piano. The curtain is rolled up again to reveal the cast striking a pose for their curtain call. | |
