| Description: | Same as catalog # 312196 FUN PALACE Groovy psychedelic fun palace in Margate. Margate, Kent. Psychedelic Fun Palace at Margate's Dreamland funfair. This is the creation of Keith Albarn (Damon's father we believe) and is really funky. Piece begins with general shots of the funfair rides, merry-go-round, etc. Teenagers go into the "Spectrum" Fun House which is painted with psychedelic shapes in bright colours. It is a "touchy feely" place where visitors are encouraged to interact with this "experiment in spatial awareness". Teenage girls prod and hit the walls and a man stamps on the ground to activate flashing lights. The girls have to squeeze through padded rollers. Other young people walk through the chambers stroking panels and looking at the art work. "Simple gadgetry activates light and sound in these way-out labyrinths" states the narrator as a girl moves coloured panels. "Albarn hopes that the people who wander through his Palace will be encouraged to master their environment, instead of being mastered by it." Brightly coloured lights flash and there are C/Us of strange shapes painted on fabric. | |
