| Description: | GOV DUFF OPENS PENNSYLVANIA WEEK Duff talks about the economy in Pennsylvania. Gov Duff addresses the camera: “Now here’s something that every Pennsylvanian should know about his state. During the past three years we have had more additions to existing business and more new business in Pennsylvania than in any other of the 48 states. And those figures do not come from us, which might be prejudice. They come from the Federal Bureau of the Census of Washington and are the latest figures available. That ought to convince anyone in & out of Pennsylvania that during this period we have had a fabulous new growth, In addition to what we are in Pennsylvania in an industrial way. Pennsylvania during this administration has done more to clean up our water supply than any other state anywhere in America. And there are places here, where today water is running clear in streams, where four years ago, you couldn’t see your hand in four inches of water. In our highway department for four successive years we have led every state in the union. And that is without counting the Pennsylvania Turnpike and during Pennsylvania week the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be opened an extension from Corel all the way to Philadelphia, a distance of 100 miles. And also from Earlend to Pittsburgh and there is also under contract and certainly will be completed all the way from Pittsburgh to the Ohio line. That will give Pennsylvania a four lane, no red light, no stop highway with no grade over 2% from Philadelphia on the east to Pittsburgh on the west, and all the way from Pittsburgh to the Ohio line which is the greatest single four lane Highway anywhere in the world. Those are two of the conspicuous material accomplishments in which Pennsylvania leads all of the states.” | |
