| Description: | GRAPE HARVESTERS The wine harvest in France - people at work in the fields then relaxing in the evening. Excellent footage of workers harvesting grapes in Bourgogne, France, one of the world's greatest wine regions and certainly some of the most valuable agricultural land in the world. This is probably a rather large domain for Burgundy, where many farms are very small. France LS workers (male and female) picking grapes in vineyard. MS woman picking grapes. MS girl c. age 8 sits on ground beside her basket, eating grapes; she sees camera and smiles. MS woman dumps grapes from small basket into larger bushel basket held by a man; he carries his full basket off to rt.; in BG is some low building and hills beyond. MS 2 young men pick up and carry on their shoulders a pole with a big tub of grapes hanging from it; beyond the vineyard can see some houses, trees. MLS the 2 men load the big tub of grapes onto wagon. MLS horse-drawn wagon drives on path through vineyard, carrying several tubs of grapes and a few pickers. LS a bigger group of pickers - men, women and children, old and young - walking through vineyard at end of the day; everyone is walking except 2 toddlers riding on wagon. Back view of pickers walking up road into village - or just to the chateau. LS grape pickers eating supper at long table outdoors near row of trees. MLS tilt down: workers sit at table talking and drinking wine (Tvidement! I should hope so!) at end of the meal; an elderly man climbs up onto a barrel in FG; in this shot one can see many barrels under the trees in BG. LS from over by trees: the man up on the barrel sings or tells jokes to entertain workers sitting at table at rt.; a few women also watching from top of ivy-covered stairway on large house behind the improvised comedian; this is surely the home or of the proprietor. Cuts back and forth between this view and the former one (from top of stairs?). Workers start swinging their arms, maybe singing along; at the end they jump up and applaud the entertainer. | |
