| Description: | GROWING CONCERN OVER BERLIN DEADLINE SET BY REDS Concern increases throughout the world as the U.S.S.R.'s zero hour on free West Berlin nears. At Leipzig, Germany, it's a cool and indifferent crowd that listens to Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev as he starts a 4-day visit to East Germany. He declares the U.S.S.R. will stop at nothing to gain their objective. But Khrushchev is a man of vacillating words. In Washington, D.C., President Dwight D. Eisenhower reiterates the West's intentions of defending the freedom of West Germany. The President rules out general mobilization and cautions against hysteria over Russian tactics. Crowd waves flags and applauds. Khrushchev claps, gestures, talks at microphones. Crowd releases helium balloons into the air. Eisenhower speaks to reporters at press conference (nat sound). | |
