| Description: | Harbor Blaze: Chemical Blasts Rock Port of New York On the Jersey City waterfront, a few hundred yards from the scene of World War I's 'Black Tom' explosion, firemen battle an inferno of blazing and exploding chemicals. 55-gallon drums hurtle hundreds of feet into the air in a perilous chain reaction that helps sustain the blaze for hours. A spectacular fire, seen and heard widely in the vast Port of New York. Flames and smoke billow into sky. Smoke over nearby highway. Men (not in uniform, for the most part - volunteer firefighters?) fight fire with hoses. Note: Video image deteriorates in spots toward the end of this clip. | |
