Woman having her hair done, then in stylish military uniforms, including an army helmet. Alternating shots of elegant evening headwear with things that might be suitable for the trenches. M/S of a woman in military uniform sitting before a mirror in a hair salon, having her hair tended to by a hairdresser. We then see several great shots of the same woman modelling different hairstyles designed by hairdresser Vasco (sp?) specially for wearing with with military uniform, forage hats and steel (air raid warden or fire watcher) helmets. Each hairdo is also seen with the model in evening wear to show their versatility. How the woman of the 1940s copes with the nylon/silk shortage: she paints on her hose, including the line up the back. What follows is excellent footage of a woman applying some 'liquid stockings' to her legs. M/S of 2 pairs of stockings lying on a table. A woman picks them up and tosses them away; fade into same shot, with several pots of dark cream on the table. A pretty girl looks coyly at the pots. We then see a woman mix some of the potion with some water in her hands and apply it to one of her legs. She is sitting at a dressing table and wearing a satin robe. C/U of a girl's legs; she is wearing shorts and fabulous wedge-heeled sandals. Great C/U of a woman's lower legs as she draws a line up the back of one of them to look like the seam of a stocking (she is wearing court shoes and we can see the hem of her dress). C/U of the woman using the same pencil on her eyebrows. M/Ss of woman's legs - perhaps comparing the liquid stockings with the real thing. This is brilliant footage showing how to apply liquid stockings! | |
