| Description: | HELICOPTER TOUR Great aerial shots of London in 1959 as we take a helicopter tour over the city. London. Several shots show adults and children putting on lifejackets as commentator explains we are about to take a novel sight-seeing tour of London - by helicopter. We see the tourists boarding a Westland Widgeon helicopter and taking off while a two mechanics and a lady watch. We then see various aerial shots of London taken from the helicopter, following the route of the River Thames. The sights include the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Charing Cross and the Savoy Hotel, Tower Bridge, ships, tugs and barges on the River Thames, St Paul's Cathedral, part of the Docklands area showing several ships in docks, the Royal Naval College at Greenwich, Greenwich Pier and the Cutty Sark. On the South Bank we see the Royal Festival Hall, Waterloo Station, the new Shell building being built and County Hall. The aerial shots are intercut with shots of the pilot and controls, plus the passengers looking out at the view; one uses a cine camera. We approach the helipad and land. | |
