| Description: | The eighth major hurricane of the season roars through seven states before blowing herself out. In the low-lying town along the Gulf of Mexico, more than 150,000 people are evacuated to safety as Police, National Guardsmen and Civil Defense workers go on disaster alert. Their rescue efforts go off like clockwork. The death toll is held to 37 persons - a remarkably small number for such a storm. Sugar crop is badly damaged and authorities have not yet attempted to assess the overall financial loss. Franklin, Louisiana The streets are deserted and the rain is pouring down. A speed limit sign being blown around. A civil defense worker throwing a garbage can cover over a chain link fence so it wont blow around and projected like a weapon due to the wind. Two firemen rescuing a woman both of the men are holding each side of her by her arms. Family members are in a safe shelter. The hurricane Hilda hitting land, downtown street in Franklin Louisiana. Aftermath of Hilda, roofs laying on the street, shattered windows and store fronts. Neighborhood streets just covered with broken trees and branches. Toppled mobile homes in a trailer par. The steeple of a church ripped off and laying on the street, and part of the front of the building ripped off exposing bedrooms. Radio towers that were knocked down.
