Herbert Hoover overcame the fate of being a "Depression President" to gain new stature as a Statesman and Humanitarian of international renown. He is laid to rest at West Branch, Iowa, his boyhood home. Washignton, DC A team of six horses pulls a wagon carrying the casket of President Herbert Hoover, 31st President of the United States down the street of Pennsylvania Avenue to the Rotunda housed in the Capitol Building in Washington DC. A mix of military carry the remains of the President up the stairs of the Capitol Building. President Johnson and his wife Lady Bird slowly walk up the steps of the building. An Honor Guard stands at attention keeping watch over the remains of President Hoover as a single file of people pay their last respects. West Branch, Iowa Throngs of mourners come out to bid farewell to President Hoover, the crowds number in some area of the rows of people 10-deep, lining the streets of West Branch, Iowa.
