| Description: | HOVER SCOOTER Demonstration of a hover scooter from America on land and water Long Ditton, Surrey. M/S of the hover scooter sitting on the grass as a man, Alistair Pugh, comes into shot. It looks like a funnel with handlebars attached, on top of a circular base with two silver fins sticking up from it. He walks round checking it then climbs astride it. C/Us of the controls as he starts the ignition and of the propellor starting up. M/S as the hover scooter starts to move, and the man stands up to steer it as it glides over the grass, spraying fallen dead leaves about. More M/Ss of the machine gliding around as commentator tells us it was brought over from the United States by a leading motorcycle journal, and goes on to explain the workings of the machine. As Alistair drives from the grass onto a lake we are told "The floating-on-air principal makes it equally adaptable for water travel"; it creates lots of spray while moving about on the water. M/Ss and C/Us of the scooter on the water; commentator explains "The so-called air 'cushion' is actually provided by air being thrust downwards under the machine, and steering is by altering (with the handlebars) the angle at which the air hits the ground and by the pilot balancing his weight accordingly". (I think I understand...) Alistair stops the engine and holds his arms out to us, to show that the machine still remains buoyant without the power. | |
