| Description: | ON PREVIEW CASSETTE #98255 D This is the story of Bill, a wayward youth living and breathing on the wrong side of the tracks, developing a squirmy dislike of the police and all authority figures as he molds into a perfect petty criminal. One can't help but wonder, given the time period, that part of the film's intention was to sway impressionable youth from further antagonizing the dogs minding the Vietnam War; to not fight the power any further than those before them already had; that the films acts as a precautionary measure should rebellious righteousness and left-wing politicking be passed on to younger, more vim crowds. Respect the law, 'cause the law is designed to protect and to serve you. Even if it's in plainclothes. Tilt D of a brick urban apartment building to a door where Bill exits with a bag of garbage, his mother's whinings lingering in his head; he places the bag in the garbage can, unlocks his bike and rides off. High angle tight LS of the boy on his bike as he makes his way through the city for a playground. MS of several boys playing with a ball at the playground. MS of Bill and another boy yelling at each other. Low and high angle MS's of Bill drawing a defaming caricature of police on the playground pavement. MS of Coach Johnson interceding, telling Bill to clean the picture up. MS of Bill scrubbing the chalk cartoon off. MS's and CU's of Bill and Coach Johnson having a sappy heart to heart talk at the playground that reveals Bill's lack of respect stems from the lack of a father figure at home. MS of Bill storming to his bike at the monkey bars where his former pal is waiting, says, I DON'T WANNA FIGHT. I WISH YOU'D FORGET IT. Bill takes his bike and leaves without a reply.......... tight LS of Bill riding his bike to the market where he buys a cold refreshing Fresca; while savoring it he notices an older bully eyeing his bike suspiciously. MS of the two struggling for the bike; CU of the older bully's hand striking the camera (gently mind you). Tight LS of the bully stealing the bike, riding quickly between pedestrians. MS of Bill on the ground, nursing his wounds (if he had any). Slow motion MS of Bill running through the streets and towards the playground. Real time LS's and MS's of Bill running along streets and through alleys. CU's of an exhausted and bruised Bill leaning against a gate, talking to himself. MS of Bill giving a vague description of the suspect to Coach Johnson and former pal. LS of the three walking tenderly to a pay phone. High angle and level tight LS's of lonely Bill walking home, eyeing every passing bicyclist with more tham a little venom. ECU of a bike tire rolling up; tilt U to MS of Coach Johnson in a police uniform and the captured thief. | |
