| Description: | Master 1779 - Tape 1 MS/CU/TLSs U.S. President DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (Dwight David Eisenhower, Ike, Dwight Eisenhower) waving special wand to initiate remotely from Washington, DC, a chain reaction in Shippingport, Pennsylvania, December 2, 1957. The wand had a small neutron source and used a fission counter to trigger a relay which was sent over a wire to throw the switch at the station in Shippingport. It was a symbol of neutronics and nuclear energy. Shippingport at full power was designed to produce between 60,000 and 80,000 kilowatts of electrical energy.
