| Description: | OUT OF FOCUS Ike On The Mend: Recovers Rapidly After Operation White House press secretary James Hagerty is the storm center in the most anxious 72 hours the Capital has known, since President Eisenhower’s heart attack last year. Around the clock Mr. Hagerty is besieged by the Washington press core franticly seeking news about the President who was taken by ambulance suffering from an acute intestinal disorder. He is rushed to Walter Reed hospital. Where consultation by 13 doctors surgery is decided. Establishing shot - Mr. Hagerty meeting with the press core in the White House. MS - Ambulance leaving the White House. LS - Outside shot of Walter Reed Hospital. MS - Mrs. Eisenhower and her son, Major John Eisenhower pull up to the hospital in a limo. The exit the car and walk up the stairs into the hospital. MLS - The press. Doctor shows a drawn diagram on a black board the operation procedure on the president. MS - Many people standing outside the hospital. Mr. Hagerty reports on President Eisenhower’s condition: “This morning the President’s spirits were fine and his moral was good. General Heaton, the commanding officer of the hospital, returned to the hospital this morning, and Major Arthur Cohen, general surgeon, in charge of the floor, during the early morning hours, told the General a story. That he thought as did the General indicative of the President’s high spirits and high moral. He said that the President been awake several times and once when he went into his room the President smiled at him and merely shook his head, and said, “What a belly ache”.” | |
