| Description: | MS white woman in her 30s about to be interviewed by the camera crew. The woman says she is afraid she will forgot something and a woman off camera reassures her. Interviewer, "I've heard the social events in Washington are very important, is that true?" Woman, "It's true. It is said that more business is conducted at parties in the evening than is conducted in offices in the daytime. One of the most famous party givers was Perle Mesta, who was known as the hostess with the mostest. She lived here in the late 1960s and early 1970s and she was famous for her parties for diplomats, government officials, and celebrities. As a matter of fact, the parties were so popular they were well covered by the local newspapers and treated as news in the daily papers." The cameraman instructs the woman to move, the female interviewer reminds the woman to mention the name of the hotel and she asks her the same question. The woman gives the same rehearsed answer, this time including that Mesta stayed at the Sheraton Washington Hotel. The woman being interviewed exemplifies late 1980s fashion from her hair and makeup to her dress. | |
