| Description: | MS film director and occasional actor OTTO PREMINGER sitting in leather chair at desk, reading book ("Porgy"); off-screen reporter begins interview by almost calling Mr. Preminger, "Mr. Mamoulian" (as in, director Rouben Mamoulian, who had been slated to direct "Porgy and Bess" before being replaced by Mr Preminger). Oops. MS Otto Preminger lowering book, responding to question about why he decided to direct the film version of the stage play, "Porgy and Bess." Mr. Preminger says he's been wanting to secure the rights & make the film for a long time. Mr Preminger says he cannot comment on the release of Rouben Mamoulian. Mr. Preminger says he's reading the novel, "Porgy" (holds book in his hands, shows it off to camera). Otto Preminger says he likes the script & enjoys working with Samuel Goldwyn, whom he refers to as "the father of the independent production." Quoth Mr. Freeze: "I'm basically an independent producer & director, and I never work for anybody else. Since I've become an independent producer & director I've wanted to direct for Mr. Goldwyn b/c I've felt that with him producing, I could learn a lot." "The minute you leave here I will start the work. That's all I can tell you." | |
