| Description: | ISLAND OF VULCANO Village scenes on this volcanic island plus an elderly couple being buried in hot therapeutic sands. Vulcano, Italy. M/Ss of a man walking over a patch of sandy beach towards a villa; a man sitting on the villa wall plays a guitar; the volcanic coast is seen in the background. Various shots of people eating in a restaurant on the terrace of the villa; a young couple eat spaghetti; at another table a woman feeds a green parrot that sits on her hand. Commentator says there are five volcanoes on this tiny Aeolian island, just north of Sicily. M/S of a sun-tanned young man walking down a dusty mountainside. Various shots in a village; an old woman sweeps the ground outside a simple house; three younger women watch from a balcony; a donkey eats some grass; a dog lies asleep in the sun; a woman waters some plants with a bucket of water. L/S of a huge and craggy volcanic rock; a corner of a hut is in the foreground; M/S of a craggy yellow rock face. M/S of some women and children walking towards an old house with castle turrets; we are told this was the home of a Scottish man (unnamed) who bought the whole island. M/Ss of the exterior of the house showing a clothes line. Various shots of people of all ages floating in the hot volcanic waters of the island which can soothe rheumatism. A young Italian man helps an elderly couple, Mr and Mrs Paton, out of the water; as they walk along the beach we see C/Us of bubbling water in little hollows in the sand. He then buries them in the hot sulphur sands, which "is of considerable therapeutic value". | |
