| Description: | Businessman at work at desk; female secretary beside him picks up a ringing phone. He takes it and she leaves. Two men talk rather woodenly about good salesmanship. Titles and music dissolve to newscene of man and woman packing for the man to leave -- he's going into business for himself. He picks up a fancy box and says, "Tom Arnold gave it to me." In the outer office a secretary turns away three salesmen who have been kept waiting, who grumble and leave. Scenes follow of woman and man in purchasing department doing business, talking on the phone, talking at desks, pushing papers.
02:11:36 funny scene with fast-talking salesman Floyd Gabbler, who comes into office wearing bow tie and chatters away, trying to sell office supplies. Typical line: "You need anything in the line of pencils, erasers, rubber bands? How 'bout metal clips, staplers, file fasteners, filling cards or filing folders?" 02:20:35 locale shifts to restaurant, where man and woman talk about their problem: a new guy in the office is shaking things up. Man lights cigarette. 02:22:30 woman at desk, shows the boss her newfangled Bates ListFinder, the pop-up address book. The boss is fascinated. Further scenes of businessmen talking in office 02:34:31 nice shot of boss talking into old fashioned dictation machine, praising the new man for his initiative in buying Bates products. | |
