| Description: | Japan's Royal Wedding In a typically Japanese mingling of scenes of the modern and of medieval splendor, Prince Akihito weds the commoner he met on a tennis court, Michiko Shoda, as the nation rejoices. Scenes show the wedding, in accordance with 2600-year old ritual, the reception of the royal family, and the wedding procession of the story-book couple past a throng of 1 million cheering Japanese - and the assault of one disgruntled student that fails to mar the perfection of the great day. Bride and groom in traditional clothing pose for cameras. Japanese crowds, including photographers and press, line streets. Bride and groom in modern attire travel in open horse-drawn carriage. Very formal-looking and sparse wedding reception (?), each person at a unique table, no one talking. The couple pose with an older couple (the prince's parents?). Carriage ride again; man throws something at the couple, the bride ducks. The man begins to climb into carriage and is pulled away by men in uniform. | |
