| Description: | Footage is damaged Walter Blum, the National Riding Champion, is recuperating from a brush with death. In a Santa Anita feature, his horse breaks a leg and a following horse crashes into the rider. Walter Blum tells the harrowing story against a pictorial record of the race. Exterior shot of a hospital where Walter Blum, National Riding Champion was admitted after his horse broke a leg. "Well the races got on their way at Santa Anita and of the second day of the meeting, I rode this horse in the 8th race called Country Squire, and Selene Trevino was on a horse called Chief of Chiefs. My horse was laying third and just about the time he reached the turn, he was moving from 3rd to 2nd and with that he broke his leg, and fell, and naturally we went down. Riding behind us was Chief of Chiefs and he couldn't avoid hitting me so that's just what he did. Well the doctors kind of let me down, when I asked them how long would it be before I could ride again, they told me 4 or 5 months. However with a little exercise and therapy, I hope to cut this down to 2 or 3. However I, whatever the time element is I hope to get back in action as soon as possible." | |
