| Description: | "Mr. Smith's Children Film". Fun! Basically an early 1920s home-movie - -albeit a 35mm home movie! The title's "Mr Smith" must either be connected with Pathe or has hired them to make a film of his two children playing on a swing. MS the empty swing - -a little wooden seat with a bar across the front, hanging from ropes tied to something above and attached at 4 corners of the swing. Little girl in white dress and hat enters, has a bit of trouble scrambling under the front bar to get into the swing, and then seems to have some difficulty getting going. Then a boy (in white tailored shirt and shorts) enters and gives her a helpful push and she swings. Cut to shot of the boy taking his turn swinging, then falling forward (for fun) then swinging some more. little girl has come back over, she has taken off her hat and has a big bow in her hair. 01:12:28 Now both kids swing at once, the boy in the seat and the girl on top. Then both squeezed into the seat. The pair look like they're having an uproariously great time, laughing exhuberantly. 01:13:12 (beginning of shot damaged) GV rather scenic hillside w/ trees, a few houses, topped by ancient castle; in FG a path alongside an ols stone wall; a group of people come through at gate at left, walking along this path - -among them the 2 children, along with 6 women and 2 men - -presumably family and maybe governess etc.) Finally c.2 frames (i.e. you can't really see it unless looking frame by frame) of old house (but centuries younger than the castle). Wow! do they live there? | |
