Description:KILLARNEY AND BLARNEY A look at some of the sights and traditions of picturesque South West Ireland.

South West Ireland.

Exterior. A beautiful L/S of the rolling hills surrounding Lake Killarney in County Kerry, in the foreground a hiker stands on a rock admiring the view. L/S of the lake from a different angle. M/S of an Irish jaunting cart outside a hotel. Three young women get into the cart. C/U of Tommy, the brown cart horse, pulling the cart. Dennis Kissane, the driver - in Irish, 'the jarvey' - climbs into the cart and takes the reins. Low angle shot of the horse trotting away. A panning shot follows the horse and cart riding away from the hotel. C/U of two of the women on the cart chatting and laughing - they are Carmel and Judy O'Hehir, tourists from Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. C/U of their sister, Cathleen, on the cart. Point of view shot from the front of the cart going down a country road towards the lake. L/S of another horse and cart arriving outside a small country inn with more jaunting carts and crowds of people in the foreground. M/S of a woman on a chestnut horse, behind her are more horses and people milling about outside the inn. A boy leads the chestnut horse a short way before patting its hind to set it off by itself. M/S of the woman ridding up a rocky path, followed by a man also on horseback. Beside the path more horses and ponies are grazing. According to the narrator although you can go most places in a jaunting cart, some places - such as the Gap of Dunloe - are only accessible by pony or on foot. L/S of a fast flowing river, in the background a mountain looms - "the towering summit of the Macgillycuddy Reeks". C/U of the foamy water. L/S of the breathtaking Torc Waterfall. L/S of the ancient ruins of Muckross Abby. M/S of two young women wandering around the ruins. C/U of the two young women. Low angle shot of the ruined spire. C/U of flowers and plants growing through the ruined walls. Point of view shot from the front of the jaunting cart as it rides up a country lane. L/S of the cart riding away from the camera, past a field of sheep, more mountains and Lake Killarney. L/S of Blarney Castle in neighbouring County Cork, in the foreground two women walk over a wooden bridge over a stream. Low angle shot of an ivy clad turret. Panning shot follows visitors around the parapets towards the famous Blarney Stone. The narrator explains that the stone "gives the gift of oratory in exchange for a kiss". M/S of a man helping a young woman lie on her back and kiss the Blarney Stone. The young woman is Anne Whitaker, a tourist from Connecticut, U.S.A. C/U of Anne kissing the stone. C/U of Anne's feet tipping up as she leans back, the man grabs her ankles to hold her steady. C/U of Anne sitting up and laughing. Two boys watch and laugh. M/S of Anne and her companion walking away. L/S of the jaunting cart driving over a dilapidated stone bridge, in the background dark storm clouds cast the shadow of the mountain over the lake.
