L/S as the coffin of King George V, covered with the royal standard and riding on a gun carriage, makes its way from Sandringham escorted by Guards. King Edward VIII (later Duke of Windsor); Prince Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI); Prince George, Duke of Kent; Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester; and Lord Harewood (husband of Princess Mary the Princess Royal) walk behind. Various shots as people watch. M/S as the carriage carrying Queen Mary passes, she is wearing a heavy veil. A white horse is led on followed by other mourners including tenants, servants and household of the royal estate led by Lord Wigram. M/S as the gun carriage makes its way slowly through the streets towards Wolferton station. M/S of the sign saying "Wolferton". King Edward VIII and the other mourners follow the gun carriage into the grounds of the station, Queen Mary's carriage rides in afterwards. Various shots as people on the platform at King's Cross station take their hats off as the royal train draws in. M/S of the station. The cortege rides out to the sound of the bell at Westminster Abbey. It continues down Kingsway and through Trafalgar Square before it enters palace yard. Crowds line the route and bells toll. Guards stand to attention as they enter the yard. They remove their bearskin hats and carry the coffin into Westminster Hall. L/S as King Edward VIII and his brothers bow to Queen Mary who is waiting. M/S as the Union Jack is lowered and the royal standard stays at half mast. M/S of the coffin lying in state inside the hall, soldiers guard it. | |
