| Description: | Korea Awaits Ike: Dignitaries Gather For His Inspection. As dignitaries await the inspection visit of President-elect Eisenhower, the city of Seoul enthusiastically prepares for the great day. A bustle of activity bedecks the streets with banners and buntings, signs and slogans. Supreme Allied Far East Commander Mark Clark disembarks plane, saluting and greets General Van Fleet. Press photographers (warmly dressed) gather and take aim. Group of dignitaries on platform, including Mrs. Van Fleet and Korean President Syngman Rhee. Rhee gives a flag to a soldier. In Seoul, men prepare huge banners to welcome Ike. They also put finishing touches on large paintings, including one of Eisenhower (pretty funny to see this man painting Ike's nose!). Building with banner on it: Welcome President Elect Eisenhower. Drive Away the Chinese Reds! Other welcome signs around town. | |
