| Description: | This is the death of Liberty in Budapest from 15 Red Armor Divisions that poured into Hungary patriots fight to the last man, they attempt to eradicate hated Soviet books and flags before being ground under the iron heel of Russian soldiers or being exiled into Siberia. While there is still time both Hungarian soldiers and civilians flock to the Austrian border and the freedom they have bought so dearly. More than 10,000 succeed reaching the haven. Carrying with them the pathetic remnants they have been able to save. Uprooting horror and armed oppression. The avenue to freedom is brief as night ascends on liberty behind the Iron Curtin. A ring of Red Tanks blocks the last road to safety. A group of men standing and watching a building burn down. MS to CUS - Actual scenes of Hungarian patriots battling red tanks in Budapest. MS - Snipers shooting their riffles from doors jams and windows against the Russian armored might, in a gallant, hopeless fight. MS - Men carrying out Soviet book, maybe from libraries or bookstores putting them in a heap and setting them on fire. Hungarian men using Russian flags to stoke up the book burnings, meanwhile the Russian flags are burning too. MS - Both military and civilian streaming towards the Austrian borders. CUS - Hungarian women crying, a close up shot of a older woman holding a crutch and a tear streaming down her left cheek. CUS - Another distraught woman. CUS - Geese running after a wagon that’s going over the border. LS - The Red Tank Division keeping guard at the border of Austria. | |
