Description:Part 2 of "Maxim's Youth" trilogy
Script by A. Kapler. "A classic saga of Lenin and the people who make the socialist revolution of October 1917, in the final days before this historic event. From his arrival in the Finland Station in the early days of Octover till he announced the success of the Revolution at the Smolny Institute just a short few weeks later, Lenin was surrounded by a constant bustle of activity. With a firm hand he steered a straight course to victory. The film gives a wonderful sense of Lenin, the man, as well as of the excitement of the times. A Soviet Film Classic." Communism.

This film is in Russian with English Subtitles. It is a historical recreation of the Lenin's leadership of the October 1917 revolution.

(01:00:00) Opening credits, title screen in Russian "Lenin in October"
(01:01:30) Shots of Leningrad at dawn, on a city street a late-middle aged man lectures a crowd about the need for Russia to fight World War I to the finish, the man is approached by soldiers who jestingly put an army coat and hat on him, inducting him into the war effort, another man steps up to speak and to much applause says "down with the war"
(01:03:20) Text screen reads, "This was October 1917", guards at a city gate ID people coming through, they say they are looking for a German spy named Olenin
(01:04:00) Text screen, "On that day a train left Finland for Petrograd", VLADIMIR LENIN in the engine cab of a locomotive train talks with the train's engineer, they prepare to sneak Lenin past the Russian guards that wait at the Petrograd station, the guards ID everyone getting off the train, the train engine detaches from the train and Lenin sneaks away in the engine smoke, Lenin and an associate arrive at the apartment of ANNA MIKHAILOVNA
(01:08:05) Text screen, "Thus it was that on an autumn night of 1917 that Lenin arrived in Petrograd from Finland in order to put before the Central Committee plans (?) for an imediate armed uprising. The Central Committee met on October (?)", a man keeps look out on a city street outside the Central Committee meeting, inside Lenin lectures the committee on the need for an immediate armed uprising and condemns TROTSKY and others for wanting to wait
(01:11:12) Meanwhile at a meeting of the bourgeois and the provisional government officials it is agreed that Russia needs to be ruled with an iron fist and the Bolsheviks and Lenin need to be taken out
(01:14:41) Text screen, "The meeting of the Central Committee went on all night", the Central Committee meeting disbands, Lenin leaves stealthly with one of the meeting look outs, they walk the city streets and end up giving a light to a soldier and official who themselves are on the hunt for Lenin
(01:17:27) Lenin stays with the look out at his aparment for the night, there his wife is busy sewing baby clothes for the child she is expecting, she complains to Lenin (not knowing he is Lenin) about how hard one must work for money, the look out reads a letter from a friend who has returned from the war to his village where he and other soldiers organized an insurrection and took over the village from greedy landholders, the three people discuss what Lenin looks like (again the wife being the only one who does not know she is speaking to Lenin), Lenin whispers his strategic plans for the revolution to the look out, after Lenin goes to bed the look out - Vassili - stays up and keeps watch with a revolver, Vassili's wife joins him in the look out vigil - confirming with Vassili that it is in fact Lenin sleeping on their floor, shot of a ticking clock
(01:25:41) Text screen, "Thus after a meeting that decided the fate of mankind, Vladimir Lenin, genius of the proletarian revolution, slept on the floor wrapped in a friend's coat", at a packed clandestine proletariate meeting in a factory the armed insurrection plans are announced, Vassili is one of those in attendence, the group cheers upon hearing the plan, the leader of the meeting assigns different roles to different group members, Vassili is called away by a messenger
(01:29:16) A couple govenment officials and a couple soldier have come by to the factory committee headquarters where the Bolshevik meeting is taking place in the basement, Vassili is called upon as the representative leader of the committee, he is asked by the government official why many of the committee members have rifles - Vassili responds with sarchasm, committee members with rifles appear and stand guard over the government entourage
(01:32:02) Text screen, "A half an hour went by", the government officials wait, text screen, "Even another half hour", impatient the government officials and soldiers go downstairs into the factory, the factory seems to be some sort of heavy industry, perhaps a foundry, a locomotive train waits inside for cargo, the officials upon seeing Vassili with a rifle in hand realized they were going to get no response, they try to take a rifle from one of the workers - the worker resists and the soldiers call in their back up, this group of soldiers is then met by an overwhelming number of armed factory workers - the armed worker in turn kick out the soldiers, the victorious workers cheer and laugh
(01:39:12) At Lenin's hide out Lenin gets a chuckle out of Vassili's retelling of the events at the factory, Vassili gives Lenin a map of Petrograd, Lenin leads Vassili by the hand to a bedroom so that he gets some sleep, Vassili shortly after re-emerges and sneaks back to Lenin's room to fondly watch the revolutionary draw up plans on the map of Petrograd
(01:43:43) The bourgeois and army and provisional government officials discuss the Bolshevik plan for armed uprising, they describe Lenin's physical characteristics to an assassin
(01:49:00) Vassili climbs the stairs to Lenin's apartment, there he delivers several papers to Lenin, Lenin and Vassili talk about Vassili's need for sleep
