| Description: | "Let's Go Gay!" London. At the Covent Garden Opera House we see various shots of the 'Lights Out' Ball. The Grenadier Guards plays while Robert Naylor sings 'Here's Health Unto Our New King'. Crowds of people watch from the rear and balconies. They applaud at the end of the song. Then Joe Loss and his Band play for the guests who crowd onto the dance floor. We see Several shots of guests including bandleader Geraldo with pianist Billy Mayerl, composer Lawrence Wright (aka Horatio Nichols), 'Princess Pearl' - Mrs Harry Roy (bandleader's wife), orchestra leader Maurice Winnick, singer Florrie Forde, orchestra leaders Mantovani and Debroy Somers. Then, on the cleared dance floor we see the dancing girls from the Carl Hyson and Leslie Roberts Cabaret from the Cafe Anglais. The guests stand around the dance floor and watch. The girls wear long frilly dresses and carry baskets of fruit as they dance to the Latin American tune (think it is 'Cielite Lindo'). Two of the main dancers - "dainty Lillian and Constance" - stay on the floor and do a dance routine with Ronnie Boyer to 'Tango Dreams'. At one point the girls undo their frilly skirts and hook them over their arms so we see their legs and scanty, sparkly costumes beneath. A sign at the side of the dance floor reads 'Make Your Souvenir Records Here' - popular gimmick of the time. | |
