Description:LION AT THE TABLE (aka TAME LION ONE OF THE FAMILY) Simba the lion is so well-behaved that as a treat he is allowed to dine with the zoo owner and his wife

Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

L/S, across a swimming pool, of zookeeper, Charles Humphries feeding a camel in an enclosure, part of a private zoo. M/S of Charles offering leaves to the camel over the enclosure fence. M/S, taken from inside the cage, of some toucans. John Stevens, owner of the zoo, is feeding the birds through the cage wire. M/S of zookeeper, Jennifer Minney, pouring grain into a tray which a zebra, nicknamed 'Doughboy', is eating from. C/U, through cage bars, of Kandy the tiger licking a piece of raw meat. C/U of two zebras eating from the tray of grain, the camera follows as they move their heads up. M/S of Blondie the polar bear reaching through the cage bars for pieces of bread. The narrator points out "although the 'residents' here are regarded pretty well as pets, remember they are still basically wild animals and have to be kept in their cages - especially at meal times". The one exception to this rule is Simba the lion! M/S of John, accompanied by another zookeeper, attempting to hang onto a lead attached to the boisterous Simba. M/S of Simba and John. M/S of Alice Stevens, wife of John, sitting on a rug on the lawn. She is pouring tea from a pot on a low table laid with picnic food. C/U of Alice's hand placing a dish of raw meat to the side of the table. M/S of John and Simba arriving on the lawn - Simba is "remarkably well behaved - which means that (for a treat) owner John Stevens lets him eat with the family". C/U of John looking down at Simba and pointing. C/U of Alice's hands using a knife and fork to politely cutting up an egg salad, tilt up to show Alice bringing the fork to her mouth. C/U of Simba, still on the lead, with his front paws on the table as he chows down on the raw meat. Simba eats with such ferocity that he knocks the plate. C/U of Simba chewing eating dropped meat on the rug - "at sixteen months, he's young enough to forget his manners sometimes". C/U of Alice eating. M/S of Simba at the table with Mr. and Mrs. Stevens. John gets up and picks up a silver beer tankard which he places on the floor for Simba to drink from - "to quench his thirst, Simba has (well, don't spread it around) - a mug of milk, subtly disguised in a beer bottle". C/U of Simba lapping milk from the tankard. C/U of John sipping a cup of tea, panning shot to Simba drinking milk. M/S of Mr and Mrs. Stevens and Simba picnicking. The narrator finishes with a very lame pun - "point is, where does one draw the line?"
