| Description: | Dull in imagery and contrast Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, newly appointed Chief of the US Delegation, hurls a challenge at Russia’s Vishinsky, charging the Soviet can stop the war in Korea. It's the start of what may be one of the UNs stormiest sessions of the General Assembly. Establishing shot - United Nations. OHS - Political and Security Committee. MCUS - Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge sits down at the debating table. Ambassador Lodge begins his hard hitting speech, in which he asserts that Russia can bring the conflict to an end any time it chooses. Pointing out that it would be impossible for the North Koreans and Chinese Reds to continue the struggle without direct Russian aid. He sites 10 points in which planes, tanks, weapons and ammunition all of Russian manufacture were in use by the Reds. He then flings the gauntlet to Vishinsky. Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge: "President the Soviet Representatives are here by challenged to disprove these facts. The show how far the Soviet Union has gone to broaden the war, how? Since the fall of 1950 the United Nations has not been fighting a local enemy but the vast manpower resources of Communist China. Supported by material resources of the entire Soviet world. And then Mr. President there are people who have the crudity to come here and make sanctimonious speeches about world peace". | |
