| Description: | LONDON'S FAMOUS CLUBS AND CABARETS NO. 3 Good footage of London night club w/ floor show, 1926. Crowded dance floor, patrons in formal wear/ evening dress (men wear white tie or black tie and tux, women in elegant gowns). Closer shot of fashionable couples dancing. MLS violin player from Jay Whidden's Melody Makers. MS couple dancing by. People sitting at tables. MCU friends sit talking between dances. The show begins. Opening dance number: woman dances holding candlestick? Accompanied by 5 female dancers in rather odd costumes, minidresses w/ garters worn just above the knee, holding up what looks like the bottom part of bell-bottoms! Another dance number, w/ lots of kicks. Man dances w/ 2 women, 5 other chorus girls dance together. MLS Dancer Vera Bryer doing dance w/ high kicks, shown in slow motion. She goes from a kick above her head into the splits, then does a cartwheel and another split. Next, group of dancers in 17th century costumes w/ powdered wigs, performing dance called "Pompadour". MS some of the female dancers, w/ laced bodices and big skirts. Back to wide shot of courtly dance. Next, LS Tex McLeod spinning a lasso. MS same; Tex makes the rope go round his body, then to sides, etc. Back to LS. He starts jumping through the spinning loop. Slow-motion repeat of more of Tex's act, incl. stunts such as jumping up and down while spinning the rope round his feet. Wide shot dancer Tim O'Conner performs a fast comic dance w/ many acrobatic tricks; chorus girls sit in chairs on either side, while a few other performers sit in BG on steps. Comedienne Elsie Percival, dressed in drag incl. fake moustache, does a comic dance, an impression of Hal Sherman; chorus girls , still sitting on sides, accompany w/ arm movements. Dancer Edna Maude does a version of the Charleston- -en pointe!!! (on her toes). Follies Finale: Some of the performers come skipping down toward audience, then join chorus line on stage and all jump around. At the end the chorus girls in BG all jump up on stools and everyone on stage waves as curtains swing closed. | |
