| Description: | LORD JELLICOE. Unveils Preston's beautiful new War Memorial. Lancashire. Lord John Rushworth Jellicoe, 1st Sea Lord 1916, born 1859, died 20/11/1935. Panning shot of a crowd gathered outside a large building with columns. Brief M/S of soldiers marching past a crowd. M/S of several men in ceremonial uniforms and robes, some carrying maces, marching towards a large memorial in the middle of a cobbled square. They about turn and stand to attention as some men in clerical robes walk into shot. M/S of Jellicoe, accompanied by two officers, inspecting a troop of soldiers. M/S of a row of dignitaries - the Mayor, several officers, town councillors etc. - standing in front of a large memorial partially draped in a Union Jack flag. Jellicoe steps up to the memorial, takes hold of a cord attached to the flag and makes a speech. M/S of Jellicoe laying a wreath at the base of the memorial. We see the Mayor and several of the officers following suit. M/S of battalion of sailors, many wearing medals marching through the streets, passing a troop of soldiers standing to attention. The sailors are followed by ex-servicemen, many also have medals pinned to their civilian suits. M/S of a man looking at the wreaths at the base of the memorial. L/S of the memorial, crowds mill about around it. C/U of some of the wreaths. More shots of the unveiling the memorial - there is an amusing bit where the flag gets stuck and a man has to climb up the memorial to unhook it! C/U of Jellicoe and the Mayor (unfortunately Jellicoe's saluting hand obscures his face). More shots of unveiling ceremony. | |
