The leader of the Sudetan, Konrad Henlein, wanted autonomy for the German speaking regions of Czechoslovakia. The Czech government was opposed to parition. In September, Hitler demanded the Sudetanland become part of Germany. The British and French goverments gave into his demands without regard for the Czech position.
