| Description: | GAZETTE "London - LORD TRENCHARD - but rarely seen - and still more rarely heard - opens new Middlesex Auxiliary Force headquarters." London. Lord Trenchard, in his RAF uniform, stands before a group of people to make a short address. A row of dignitaries sit behind him. Closer shot of Lord Trenchard as he speaks. He says he accepted the invitation to speak in part because it was nice to know that he was not forgotten by the RAF, and because he remembered very clearly the formation of the Auxiliary to the RAF being formed, as it was done on the terrace of his home. He says the then Minister of War was present (which might have been Winston Churchill). He declares the Auxiliary open. Loud applause after he finishes his speech. [Hugh Montague Trenchard (1873-1956) had played a formidable role in the creation of the RAF, had been the first Marshal of the RAF, and was one of its foremost tactical thinkers, especially in the doctrine of effective strategic bombing and the importance of air supremacy.] | |
