| Description: | LUMINO-DYNAMICS Exhibition of Nicolas Schoffer's futuristic sculptures at the Institute of Contemporary Arts London. M/Ss of a futuristic metal sculpture whirling round with red then green lights being shone on it; C/Us of the base as it moves around the floor; commentator says "we called in at an exhibition of sculpture by Nicolas Schoffer, who (even by modern standards) is considered to be thirty or forty years ahead of his time. This, which he calls Cysp 1, a robot inspired (if that's the word) by an electronic brain". C/U of the top of the model; metal discs and geometric shapes spin round on an intricate metal frame while the whole thing moves around from the base. Commentator: "We did say 'sculpture', but of the type that comes under the headings of Spatiodynamics, Cybernetics and Lumino-dynamics (and you won't find those words in the dictionary!)." M/S of the 'Lux 3' model moving round slowly with a rotating light wheel beside it; again, it the sculpture has a metal frame with discs and other shapes attached; different coloured lights are shone on it and projected onto a screen. Nicolas Schoffer, enters shot and adjusts part of the sculpture; M/Ss of the model moving round; C/Us of NS watching it; the light wheel rotating. Numerous C/Us as we see the projected colours and shadows on a screen; very abstract and atmospheric. Commentator says "Whether you think Schiffer is at the very summit of modern art, or whether you think it's just plain crazy, you'll have to admit - it makes you think!" (kinetic sculpture) | |
