| Description: | Animated film about selling to business: careful approach, double-check, and so on. Crude but fun animation. Lots of business-related cartoon images of white men (many are stills). Animated. First, scenes on a football field. Receiver runs along, looking for pass. Football flies through the air. Receiver tries to catch pass but drops the ball (actually it kind of bounces off of him - fumble?). Animated. Now to business. Notepad with list of prospects' names. Businessman on phone (listening, looking stern or angry). Salesman leaning toward desk behind which sits happy client; eager client leaps across the desk - he's got to have that product! Happy, quirky salesman sits on bus commuting to work, makes odd faces. Business meeting, man at head of table looks happy. Salesman travels down road with signs depicting various steps in the sales process. Silhouette of man wearing fedora-type hat, with wheels/gears turning in his brain, thinking; the gears are replaced by a "SOLD" sign. Commuters on train; salesman joins other men, playing cards with them. Man holds golf club, ready to swing; wife and two children appear in the picture (nuclear family). Their suburban two-story home. Man in bathrobe shoveling coal into furnace. Animated. Salesman (could pass for a reporter) wearing hat, smoking pipe, takes notes next to phone booth. Delighted-looking woman (1950s housewife with pearl earrings). Salesman chats with her about her coal-burning furnace, rides away on her son's toy train. Same man does paper work at desk, pipe in mouth, smiling. Animated. Salesman greets prospective customer (the woman's husband), who causes pain with his handshake. Salesman, listening, goes through a series of facial expressions - disappointed/sad, hopeful/anxious, "d'oh!", sheepish. Salesman weasels his way into an invitation to sit down, talks with the client. Happy man in business suit sits in comfy living room chair. Man shaving, face coated with shaving cream, shivers in cold. More shots of their meeting in client's home, illustrations of the sales pitch. Customer looks thoughtful. Animated. Woman sits reading book; additional home decor appears around her (rug, curtains, wallpaper). Proud homeowner (man wearing tie) stands in front of house with a sign that says "MINE" (rather than for sale) - interesting shot that could represent the American Dream, middle-class values, or greed. Two men talking, one pointing his finger to emphasize a point, the other nods his head (comical animation). Man leaving for work runs to catch train. Salesman goes in for the kill, holding out contract for client to sign. Nice still of suburban family life: Dad helps son with toy train, Mom and daughter (both wearing dresses) play ping-pong in the background. Happy proud salesman (could pass for successful detective after a case). | |
