| Description: | MR. MCNAMARA TALKS ON LATEST BOMBING RAIDS ON NORTH VIETNAM Washington DC, United States of America (USA). "Bombing Extended In Vietnam. McNamara Reports" American Defence Secretary Robert McNamara with the aid of wall maps telling the worlds press the purpose and results of air attacks near Hanoi and Haiphong. Vietnam. CU Bombing up F105 Thunderchief jets. LS Thunderchiefs taking off. VS Bombing up A4 and A5 jets on board aircraft carrier. LS Planes taking off from deck of carrier. Washington DC CU Mr McNamara speaking "The strike against the petroleum facilities were initiated to counter a mounting reliance of North Vietnam on the use of trucks and powered junks. To facilitate the infiltration of men and equipment from North Vietnam to South Vietnam, all navy and airforce pilots participating in these strikes were especially briefed by their commanding officers on the importance of avoiding civilian and built-up areas. They were early familiarised with the targets and with the surrounding terrain. The strikes were carried out in good visibility, permitting clear visual identification of the targets and of the surrounding terrain. The decision to strike these targets was made to restrict and to make more costly the enemy's infiltration efforts We believe this essential to safe guard the freedom of South Vietnam and to save the lives of those South Vietnamese, Americans, Australian, New Zealanders, Koreans who are fighting to ensure that freedom." Intercut with aerial views over Vietnamese territory. | |
