| Description: | MINING FOR PLATINUM in Colombia; platinum is in river bottom. Wide shot fork in river w/ some structures in the middle of the branches. Shot from high tower: some people seem to be struggling w/ along narrow boat, other people work standing waist deep in river. Team of workers pumping, standing on a sort of anchored raft in river on which they have built a pyramid of poles for this purpose. MSs barefoot native workers pumping then emptying pipe into a chute, spilling out water and gravel or sludge containing platinum. Worker swirling stuff round in a bowl. ECU hand holding tiny blade, using it to pick up miniscule pieces of platinum from the sample. LS rather bizarre tropical/primitive looking dredge.MS dredge scooping up river sludge in chain of buckets. Tilt down shot bucket- conveyor belt moving upward. CUs of machinery separating out the platinum. MS 2 white men; one pours the valuable platinum dust into container held by the other. CU hands wrapping package in brown paper, putting this into small box. CU hands nailing box shut. MLS more white guys loading the little box of platinum onto a boat; another man stands guard holding rifle. Boat heading out as a few Colombians watch from shore.
