| Description: | 2,500 Escape death, when the Italian luxury liner Andrea Doria is sunk off Nantucket in a collision with the Swedish American liner Stockholm. All aboard the Italian vessel were rescued in a large-scale co-operative operation involving other liners and the coast guard. Lost 52 lives - All of whom died as a result of the collision, but the toll is miraculously light, in what could have been one of the sea's worst disasters. Establishing shot - The crippled passenger ship is leaning on one side. Aerial shot - The Andrea Doria is laying on her side. Aerial shot - The water is almost to the top of the boat. Aerial shot - The Stockholm with a smashed in bow carrying 500 of the Andrea Doria survivors. Aerial shot - The other side of the Stockholm's bow. LL - Cars parked on a grassy area and a helicopter that has landed to carry away seriously injured passengers. MS - Sailors putting an injured passenger inside the helicopter.
