| Description: | Missile Failure- Atlas Explodes, Capsule Intact In one of the last tests before a man is launched into space, an Atlas missile is fired from Cape Canaveral with the Mercury Astronaut Capsule in its nose. Nose of rocket. Rocket ignition. Pan rocket during take-off. The firing proceeds with a flaw until suddenly a defect in the guidance system causes it to go off course and it's destroyed. WS Rocket. Malfunction during flight. Capsule separates and explodes. Military men on ground looking to the skies, then dart off. Capsule floating back to earth with parachute. Four pilots walk around the capsule., which has 'United States' printed on it. However, scientists are elated that the mercury capsule is successfully parachuted to earth - they say a man would have survived without injury. | |
