| Description: | MODEL TRAFFIC AREA NO. 1 A new playground in Tottenham helps children learn about driving and road safety. Tottenham, London. At the Lordship Recreation Ground (Lordship Lane Park) we see the opening of a new children's playground and 'model traffic area' - an area marked out with roads, traffic lights and junctions so that children can learn about driving in a safe environment. Minister of Transport Dr Leslie Burgin makes a speech before a microphone (natural sound), talking of "the kiddies of today" becoming the drivers of tomorrow, and learning about driving and road safety at this age so that it becomes an instinct. Park Superintendent Paris, who helped engineer the scheme, stands by a traffic sign and watches the very first lot of children using the playground. Several shots of the children riding around the area on bikes and in pedal cars; others have fun on the playground slides and roundabouts. A policeman looks on. A little girl uses an emergency telephone in a police box. Children on bikes wait for some traffic lights to change before they can move on. | |
