Illustrations showing tanker at dry-dock, the front end of the boat will be severed, then the dry-dock will be filled with water so the deck of the boat will lift and moved by floatation. With the water level still high at the dock, a longer deck is moved in. The water is emptied from the dock and the new deck is attached to the front of the old tanker.
